Fabric Giveaway: The Delhi Store

Vandana of The Delhi Store on etsy contacted me recently to ask whether I'd like to host a giveaway with some of her wonderful fabric as the prize.  

Being a new convert to the amazing world of Indian fabrics I enthusiastically said yes!

Simply leave a comment here by next Wednesday 21 August and you'll be in the draw to win a metre of fabric of your choice from The Delhi Store (postage included).

As you can see from Vandana's listings and from the pretty fabrics she sent me to photograph and review here, there's a wealth to choose from.  Ikats, florals, geometrics, traditional Indian blockprint designs and glorious solids are all featured in her line-up.  They are equally suited to dressmaking, home decorating and quilting projects.

Watch this space because I'll also be featuring some projects of my own made up with the fabrics shown here.

August already

I didn't want to say "can you believe it?" but can you believe it? It's August already (and a week in to boot). Hang on, didn't this year just start a little while ago?

I love both of these wallpapers, so it's one for the laptop and one for the desktop with no need to choose.

Lemon & blueberry cakes (a low sugar recipe)

2012 has been the year of me cutting down on sugar.  It hasn't been all that hard as I don't have a naturally sweet tooth but still found that I was doing my fair share of mindless sugar-snacking through the day.  

The only thing I really miss on my new regime is homebaked goodies and so was really happy to find a low sugar recipe for little muffin-style cakes.

(The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that the berries here are raspberries rather than blueberries but, really, you can make them with whichever berries you like.)

The lemon juice and rind in this recipe give the cakes zing and are really, I think, what makes them such a hit.

The other great thing about these cakes is that the girls love them too (and love to help me bake them). And even though I've found kicking the sugar habit easy for myself, getting the kiddies on the same page is a whole different ballgame...

A certain someone turned 4 recently.  Most birthdays in our house are celebrated with one of these sponge cakes that look a bit like the Opera House.

My mother buys them from a local shop and they're loaded with yummy fresh cream and strawberries complete with their leaves.

            

Of course it's also fun to throw a few eyeball cupcakes into the mix...

Sweet home

Just continuing my little experimentations with Photoshop.  This time rotating the image on canvas and using the text tool.  Fun and games!

The fabric is "Grandmother's Flower Garden" by Rosalie Quinlan teamed with some pink gingham and crochet lace with a little house motif.  They are destined to be a become a pillow case (another stash-busting idea....)
