I made this little outfit recently in fabrics I hoped would provide a cheery pop of colour to the winter wardrobe.
The pattern for the top is the Wink Designs Simply Sweet Top & Blouse made with a couple of variations. Instead of binding the neckline and using a tie closure I extended the centre of each yoke piece so that they overlap each other and used a buttonhole closure. The yoke is faced/lined with identical pieces of fabric.
The other main variation is that I used a knit fabric (a jersey from The Remnant Warehouse) instead of a woven. To counteract the effect of the top being too oversized in a stretchy fabric, I used Miss Wink"s usual size for the length (sleeve and hem) but one size smaller for the width (in the yoke, blouse and sleeve pieces).
The skirt is the Ruffle-icious Skirt pattern made in three Denyse Schmidt prints from the Shelburne Falls range (also from The Remnant Warehouse).
To hem the ruffles I had a go at a "rolled hem" tutorial I had pinned from Megan Nielsen's blog.
The reason I love this technique so much is that you don't have to use your overlocker, serger or a special rolled hem foot. Just your regular machine and regular foot work a treat if you follow the steps.
Result: three ruffles with perfect teeny tiny hems. Yaay!
As a winter (or summer - depending on where you are) etsy special, I've listed a 25% discount package for the "Simply Sweet Top and Blouse" and "Ruffle-icious Skirt" patterns purchased together.
(Note: for discount to apply, you need to purchase the specific listing rather than each pattern separately.) Enjoy!
