Allison's lucky dip gift got me thinking about needle cases and at the same time I rediscovered some fabric in my stash which I thought would suit my first attempt. The fabric is reminiscent of the one used by Belinda in her zakka pouch but is quite a bit "busier" in its patterning. I think I got it from Superbuzzy but we're going back a bit now so I'd have to check the old "fabric purchase log book" to be sure.
I wasn't up for a high degree of difficulty and plugged "needle case tutorial" into Google hoping to unearth a quick and easy pattern. Nope! There were needle cases shaped like sea shells, ones with cross-stitched geisha girls on the front and all manner of overly frivolous and fancy designs.
So I made this one up myself.
It's a generous size (5 x 6 inches folded) and can be made in under an hour (and I mean that! - I hate it when pattern publishers make that claim and you're still toiling away 3 or 4 hours later...). I used a double thickness of Sarah's Osnaburg (a great linen-look fabric) to make a sturdy base for the feature fabric and trim. The middle is a rectangle of wool felt. I've jotted down the how-tos in a little tutorial (see my blog sidebar for the link).
Allison, if you're reading this and you haven't yet purchased a plastic case from Spotlight (!) this one has your name on it. Let me know and I'll send it to you....
And that completes my little trio of sewing related posts "Sew simple, So cute and So silly" (wow, 3 posts in one day - a first for me!).

What a sweet needle case! Love the bright fabric you have selected - it is just what every sewer needs.

It's a gorgeous little case. The fabric is so perfect. LOVE those vintage sewing machines too!
